Tormua

Nordic Mines’ two gold deposits in the Tormua slate zone, Moukkori och Pahkalampi, are situated 60 kilometres north east of the city of Suomussalmi. The slate zone is part of Suomussalmi’s green rock zone, aged between 2.7 and 3 billion years.

The bedrock is dominated by volcanic rocks. In Pahkalampi there are also different types of slates and granite. The rock has been pleated during several stages of deformation and the mineralization is assumed to have been formed during the third phase, about 2.7 billon years ago. The mineralization both in Moukkori and Pahkalampi are linked to rifts situated in the axis of great tectonic plates.

The gold is relatively coarse and mostly appearing freely with pyrrhotite, some markasite and other minerals. Nordic Mines has evaluated existing data and performed initial tests of the moraine that show a great potential for the project.

Within a part of the area, GTK performed a core drilling program between 1990 and 1997. Preliminary calculations based on these drillings show a measured mineral resource of 590,000 tons with a content of 3,5 grams per ton gold.
