The geological examinations in the area started back in the 1940’s, when GTK performed boulder sampling, stone counting and bedrock mapping in the region. In those days, exploration was focused at finding base metals. Geophysical field measurements at the beginning of the 1950’s resulted in the drilling of 20 deep holes, in which mineralizations of gold and zinc were found. At the end of the 1990’s, an amateur geologist found nine boulders that proved to contain between 14 and 383 grams of gold per ton.

After this, GTK initiated quite extensive exploration; ditches in till and tests of the surface rock were performed (using a hammer drill of the Cobra-type) in a 50 x 50 metre-network, covering an area of 1 x 1.5 kilometres. This led to the decision to drill 30 holes, totalling 1,656 metres.

The results of the drilling showed a mineralization that was 1.5 metres wide, 6 metres long and with a depth of 30 metres. With an ore density of 2.260 kilos/m3 and a gold content averaging 30g/ton, the mineralization contained 718 tons, with 21 kilos of pure gold.

The mineralizations are positioned in a quartz diorite in close contact to a mica schist. The quartz diorite is slated and heavily deformed. Typical ore minerals include pyrite, chalcopyrite, molybdenite and gold.

The mineralizations resemble those at Laiva and the gold also appears to be associated to quarts veins striking east - west.
Nordic Mines acquired the exploration rights in 2007 and 2008. In the summer of 2009, Nordic Mines started its exploration work with exploration drilling in a wide network, measuring 200 x 25 metres, in order to form a view of the area. During the autumn, the density of the network has been increased to 100X25 metres in the central part.

Exploration drilling includes sampling of the bottom moraine and rock sampling of surface bedrock, to 2 meters depth. So far, 362 holes have been drilled; gold analyses from all holes are plotted in ppb on the map. 1000 ppb equal 1 gram of gold/ton.

Results from these, first exploration drillings have been positive and assays of the moraine indicate that there are more mineralizations, and in more areas, than have been identified so far. The spots in the area that has previously been examined by GTK where they have indicated high contents of gold both at the surface bedrock and in deeper drill holes are included in our anomaly picture, but our picture indicate that the mineralized area is much bigger.
